Following the Governor’s veto deadline on July 6, Hawaii Employers Council issued its final set of legislative reports for the 2021 legislative session.
Employers should be aware of a number of new employment laws, including the establishment of the The Uniform Employee and Student Online Privacy Protection Act. In addition, many employers may be impacted by the repeal of the minimum wage exemption for disabled employees as well as a new law prohibiting an employer from requiring an employee to download a mobile application to the employee’s personal communication device that enables the employee’s location to be tracked or their personal information revealed.
In its members-only Highlights of Bills after Veto Deadline, HEC has provided a deeper discussion on these new laws and how they may impact the workforce. Finally, a list of several other new laws that will affect employers in Hawaii can be found in the Legislative Digest for Bills after Veto Deadline.
